Frequently asked Questions
What is Paintless Dent Removal (PDR)?
The origins of PDR are said to go back to the assembly lines of the Mercedes and BMW plants in Germany dating back over 70 years! In more recent times the manufacture of professional tools and equipment has brought PDR to the forefront of vehicle repair. PDR is a skilled process that enables us to remove non-structural dents, dings and other body damage. With no spraying involved this environmentally friendly technique restores your vehicle back to its original condition without the use of paint and body fillers traditionally used by other methods.
How does the PDR process work?
Dent Devils use specialised steel rods and leavers behind the dent to release pressure inside the damaged area allowing the panel to revert to its original shape. Depending on the repair the dent is accessed by removing trim pieces, through window openings or by removing inner panels. It is a skilled process and our experienced technicians can achieve showroom results. PDR does not conceal the damage; it completely removes it preserving the original paint finish on your vehicle.
What are the benefits of PDR?
PDR is a relatively quick, affordable alternative to costly and time-consuming panel shop repairs. The technology and skills of our experienced Dent Devils technicians are second to none in the repair industry. This environmentally friendly technique requires no filling, priming or painting. Best of all, your vehicle’s original factory paint finish is left completely in tack – no colour matching required!. Dent Devils are a mobile service – we come to you at a convenient pre-booked time.

What size dents can be repaired?
Our experienced technicians can repair most non-collision dents from the size of a ten cent piece to the size of a soccer ball. The determining factor is the dents depth and diameter. A large shallow dent is more repairable than a small extremely sharp dent which will also reflect in the time and cost of repair.
Do you have somewhere I can bring my car to you for repair?
Yes! Dent Devils is primarily a mobile service but it’s all about customer choice. Booked appointments only at:
North Shore Studio – 83b Ellice Road, Wairau Valley. Current opening hours: Wednesday: 9.00am – 12.30pm • Friday 9.00am – 3.30pm Luke Williams – 022 547 5565
Mt Wellington HQ: Pre-booked appointments only: Shane Griffin – 021 748 646
Can I fix a dent myself? Will it just “pop” out?
We highly discourage you to attempt PDR repairs yourself. It might look easy and we’re all aware of the YouTube videos that circulate the internet, but they rarely tell the whole story. If you want a professional finish, use the professionals who are experienced in paintless dent repair! Take it from us, we fix other people’s disasters on a regular basis and it normally ends up costing more… if it can be fixed!
How much does PDR cost?
That’s really like asking how long is a piece of string! A tiny stretched dent can cost as much as a larger dent. It’s not just about size, other factors Dent Devils technicians consider are the depth, paint quality and access (where the dent is on the vehicle can make a difference to what is charged).
PDR is a trained process that requires a lot of patience, skill and practice. Dent Devils technicians are trained to a high standard, have a lot of experience and can repair more than just shopping trolley dents. Our repairs are completed both on and off the bodyline or style-line of the panel. Using the latest tools and technology our industry designed tools and equipment are the best and is what is required as technicians must carefully massage the dent, working slowly but acurately to avoid damaging the paint. Pending the size and complexity of the dent repairs can be relatively quick to a couple of hours. It’s not the time but the experience behind to tool that makes the difference!
Can a dent come back?
No, contrary to what you might be led to believe, a correctly repaired dent will not come back. Unfortunately, it’s very likely your car has been hit again! Once the metal is correctly massaged back to its original shape and the tension is fully released, it maintains its structural integrity.
What types of dents cannot be repaired using PDR?
Dent Devils can repair most non-collision dents and creases where the paintwork has not cracked. Some exceptions are sharp deep dents where the metal has been stretched too far to recover. Dents that are located near the very edge or seam of a panel making it difficult to access the dent for repair. See three examples below.

Dents located on the seam

What about body line dents?
Yes, not a problem. Body line dents can also be removed they just take a little more time to complete.
